On Friday 10 June I arrived in London to catch the
Eurostar to Paris. With me was a friend from the
choir, Colin Morrow. We travelled First Class,
relaxing in comfortable seats, enjoying a meal and
a few glasses of wine.
In Paris we walked for miles and miles, cameras in hand taking hundreds of photographs. It was a wonderful few days and Paris was beautiful in the hot July sun.
During the day we took the odd break from sightseeing to enjoy some coffee, or best of all, some rhubarb ice cream from Bertillon. In the evening, maybe a steak and a bottle of lightly chilled Morgon.
We also took the train to to Versailles on a very hot and sunny day. despite walking through some of the most sumptious rooms in the world, it was the fake peasant village built for Marie-Antoinette, that proved to be the most beautiful and most photographed.
On the 15 June we left Paris on the train and travelled back to London. On Thursday evening we went to hear a concert given by the Choir of St John's College, Cambridge at the Spitalfields Festival.
Again the weather was superb and on a beautiful summer Saturday we met up with another friend Nicola and headed to Cambridge. After an afternoon punting on the river, we attended Evensong at King's College Chapel and then went down the road to hear Evensong at St John's College Chapel.
A wonderful holiday in two great cities with superb weather and good company.
